Lena Bergström has a deep knowledge of craftsmanship and an utmost respect and love for the material that she is working with whether it is glass, metal or textiles. Basket Rug is entirely made by hand and has a reminiscence of old times hand woven baskets. The special technique of hand-tufting runs in different directions to enhance the three-dimensional feel of Basket New colors are a grey- brown, that blends well with both grey and brown-beige colors, and dark green. Several threads in different shades creates the desired lustre. The rug is then carefully cut by hand into a tromp l’oeil graphic pattern that pays homage to Swedish handicraft traditions such as birch bark baskets and rucksacks. Sharp angles and soft transitions play the roles in a shadow play that is both illusion and reality.

“The birch, a tree that can be found all over Sweden, is my inspiration for the Björk collection” says designer Lena Bergström. “The textile forms a beautiful surface in the home, as natural as stone or wood. To me Björk is like poetry, like a quiet whisper in the room.”
The Björk stool, or pouf, is based on a weft in wool, combined with details in leather. The expression in the woven structure is inspired by the black and white trunk of the birch tree (‘Björk’ in Swedish) and the leather represents the inside of the bark.
The marbled effect in the color of Björk is created through intertwining different colored wool yarns in the weft. Wool is known not only for its softness, but also for its built-in resistance to soiling thanks to its natural oils. Björk is woven by hand and as such is a piece of craft and therefore the appearance can differ from product to product. The whiteness of the wool yarns can also differ depending on what time of year the sheep are sheared.

The tray was originally born in Taiwan where Carina Seth Andersson along with five Swedish designers was invited by NTCRI (the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute) to create contemporary interpretations of traditional Taiwanese lacquer art. Now in finely grained oak plywood that evokes a finely crafted Scandinavian natural look.
A tray that will collect sparse objects on the floor, on a table. A little table in its own right that will create order in any busy space. Does a table require legs, one might wonder? Not at all. Vice versa, could a tray have legs? Yes, but a rim with slits instead of legs, all according to Carina Seth Andersson. Her Bridge Tray will be as content on the floor, brought outside, to another room, resting on a specially designed pouf, or on a table. A flexible piece of furniture that facilitate the use of any space. ’I often work sitting on the floor,’ Carina Seth Andersson explains, ‘and I prefer not having to risk spilling things lifting a tray by the corner, or trip over protruding handles.
